Frequently Asked Questions About Home Inspections

What is a home inspection?

A home inspection is a thorough, in-depth visual examination of the structure and operating components of a home. The home inspector will meet personally with the client at the property during the inspection and follow up with a written report containing the results.

A trained inspector will point out areas of concern during the inspection as well as educate the buyer on proper care and maintenance procedures. This information will help you make an unemotional, intelligent and informed purchase decision.

What is the cost of a home inspection?

Fees vary depending on age and size of home. Our base price is $300 for a single-family home. Multi-family homes or other structures may  vary — please call for a quote. Estimates will be given by phone.

How long does an inspection take?

The average time is 2-3 hours.

Should I be there?

We highly recommend clients be present at the inspection. If that is not possible, we will follow up our inspection with a written or computer generated report and phone consultation.

Does the inspection carry a warranty?

No. Rixon Home Inspection will do their best to determine the condition of the building and report it accurately. The home inspection is an opinion on the condition of the home at the time of inspection and is not a warranty.

When will I get my report and what kind of report will it be?

Typically you will receive your report on site, on the day of the inspection.

The home inspection report is a well-organized, easy-to-read, 20 to 33-page checklist including comments by the inspector. Comments are typically made when components are in marginal or poor condition. The report covers the various systems and structures of the building which can be visually observed by the inspector. The report also contains helpful information about the performance of the inspection and the maintenance of the home.

The inspection report, once issued, is the sole property of the client. It will not be released to anyone else without the client's consent.

Your report will be presented in a 8.5" x 11" spiral-bound booklet or can transmitted electronically.
